###What is the cosplay photo library
The cosplay photo library is an ongoing effort to put together a compilation of as many cosplayer images as possible for preservation, discussion so far has been mostly taking place on the [cosplay general sub-thread of 4chan (/t/cg)](https://boards.4chan.org/t/catalog#s=cg)
###Rationale for the creation of the library
Image sets are often distributed as individual torrents (one per set) with the exception of a few megapacks that often overlap each other making it difficult and messy to find and download material from any particular cosplayer, in addition to that small torrents don't usually last very long, the library aims to combine as many of those tens of thousands of sets into a small number of large hopefully more resilient torrents in order to prevent individual sets from getting lost and provide a convenient way for people to find content from their favorite cosplayers 
###Rationale for dividing the gallery on parts
The format of the library makes it rather unwieldy in torrent form, this is because each part is composed of hundreds of thousands of individual images, each one of those is hashed individually and added to the torrent metadata,this metadata would be over 70mb had the library been released on a single part and would be extremely problematic to deal with for most torrent software potentially causing torrent clients to crash in an effort to reduce this problems the library has been divided on 300gb (about 10mb of metadata or 100k individual files) parts which through trial and error seems to be the maximum size that will work somewhat reliably on most popular BitTorrent clients
###Differences between v1 and v2 of the library and rationale for creating v2
The original library had a substantial amount of duplicates as well as some formatting errors and corrupted images this issues have been largely taken care of on v2 in an effort to encourage seeding, in addition to that a significant amount of cosplayers have been overhauled with higher quality images that what was available on the original library
##Structure and contents of the library
### General structure
- The library is limited to images, more precisely other than the auxiliary directory (0.torrents to other parts) the library is comprised only of .jpg, .png and .gif files
- The library is divided on torrents [less than 300gb in size](#rationale-for-dividing-the-gallery-on-parts) 
- Each cosplayer has a directory with all of their sets and each set contains the name of the character being cosplayed, more genetic cosplays have a descriptive name (maid, jk, etc.), each individual image also contains the name of the cosplayer and character, a generic example of a full path for an image would be %green%/cosplay_photo_library/cosplayer/cosplayer - character/cosplayer_character_000.jpg%% 
- The library contains (mostly) cosplayers with at least 10 image sets each, this was a hard rule on the previous version but after deleting duplicate sets some cosplayers dropped below the limit, i decided to keep them in to keep consistency and to make sure that v2 is an upgrade rather than a side-grade, on future updates new cosplayers will need at least 10 sets to be added to the library
- Each part will contain the .torrent files for all previously released parts
### Specific part structure
#### main parts (cosplay_photo_library_partx)
these are the original parts and act as the "base" library
#### updates (cosplay_photo_library_updatex)
these are meant as an expansion of the main parts, not a replacement, IN ORDER TO HAVE ALL OF THE SETS AVAILABLE ON THE LIBRARY YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD BOTH THE MAIN PARTS AND THE UPDATES

##Current status

- I'm working on spreading the torrents hoping to get more seeders in order to release more parts since so far the limiting factor for the growth of the library has been the strain put on each individual seeder, hopefully as more seeders appear the situation will improve, any help with that would be appreciated
- i'm looking into translating this document into different languages and mirroring it on different sites to improve it's resiliency

there's enough content ready to make update 4, i'll wait until update 3 propagates before i start working on it though

This is a longshot but if you notice any major cosplayer missing i'd appreciate it if you were to mention it, the easiest route would be [4chan](https://boards.4chan.org/t/catalog#s=cg) but i check the cosplaybot owner's account from time to time (check the description [cosplaybot](https://varishangout.net/users/cosplaybot) especially if you know where to find said content, now that there are over 600 cosplayers in the library it's getting hard to notice things missing, the same goes for translating the documentation, if anyone is able to translate it into any other language just post the translated version and i'll add it to the torrents
